Historical records show that in December, 1899, a group of Mansfield area Christian Scientists met at College Place and organized a society to establish a church.

 

In 1900, the group was recognized as a branch of The Mother Church, and in October, 1902, the group moved to the Stocking Building, and the Reading Room was established. The church next moved to the Dickson Building in March 1904. Beginning in November 1909, services were held in the Ditwiler property on West Third Street.

 

On May 29, 1920, ground was acquired at the comer of Marion Avenue and Wood Street for a church building. On Thanksgiving Day, 1924, the first service was held in the completed Sunday School Room, and services were continued there until 1949, when the auditorium and adjoining rooms were completed. In 1989 the structure was sold and services were held at the YWCA on Park Avenue West.

 

In May, 1998, ground was broken at the southeast comer of Millsboro and Home Roads for a new building.
